Titled: La belle Strasbourgeoise Measurements framed: ~21.5” x 26” This is a rare original oil on canvas painting, in the manner of/In the style of the renowned French historical & portrait artist who excelled in his artistry of socialites of the wealthiest middle classes during his time. Nicolas de Largilliere was a Parisien, born in 1656 and died in 1746. Late in his career, Largillierre’s portraits became more intimate and relaxed than in his earlier works. In his half-length portraits, he concentrated on the character and psychology of the models, portraying them in static poses in front of minimal backgrounds. He was highly honored and painted for King Louis XIV and also was employed to restore paintings at Windsor Castle, London.
